It’s not difficult to make a hook point that is sharp at the tip. All you need is a basic needle point – like you find on most ‘chemically sharpened’ hooks. The real challenge is to make a needle point that won’t curl over or snap off under pressure.
That’s what Mustad has achieved with ULTRA POINT.
ULTRA POINT makes chemically sharpened needle point hooks stronger and more durable. They are less likely to curl over or break under pressure.
In 2004, all Mustad Premium hooks in Australia and New Zealand became equipped with ULTRA POINT.
ULTRA POINT – only from Mustad.

No other premium fish hook offers both the sharpness and incredible strength of new Mustad It’s truly a revolutionary way to increase your hook sets and prolong the life of your hooks. That means more casts, more sets, and less time in your tackle box. All from the world leader in fish hooks.

BUTT, ANAL OR TAIL HOOKING HOOK JUST BEHIND VENT AND JUST INSIDE ANAL FIN. HELPS YOUR BAIT SWIM DOWNWARD AND AWAY FROM THE BOAT QUICKLY. SINCE THE HOOK IS EMBEDDED IN SOFT TISSUE, A LIGHT LOB OR UNDERHAND CAST WORKS BEST TO KEEP THE BAIT ON THE HOOK. |

COLLAR HOOKING PREFERRED METHOD FOR ANCHOVIES AND ALSO USED FOR SMALL SARDINES. BAIT IS HOOKED THROUGH THE COLLARBONE IMMEDIATELY BEHIND THE GILL PLATES. THIS METHOD HELPS TO KEEP SMALL BAITS LIVELY AND SWIMMING JUST UNDER THE SURFACE. |
|
| BACK OR NECK HOOKING
FOR LARGER BAITS LIKE SARDINES AND MACKEREL, HOOK CROSSWISE BEHIND THE HEAD. THE BAIT STAYS LIVELY AND THE HOOK STAYS SECURE FOR CASTING. THEN THE EXPOSED POINT DOESN’T FOUL IN THE BAIT, WHICH RESULTS IN INCREASED HOOKUPS. SOME ANGLERS PREFER TO MOVE THE HOOK REARWARD AND HOOK THE BAIT UNDER THE DORSAL FIN TO PROVIDE A BETTER ANCHOR POINT. |

NOSE HOOKING HOOK BAIT EITHER CROSSWISE THROUGH THE NOSE OR UP THROUGH BOTH LIPS. HARDER TISSUE IN THE NOSE MEANS YOUR BAIT IS LESS LIKELY TO COME OFF DURING CASTING. ALSO ALLOWS SWIMMING THE BAIT BACK TO THE BOAT. |
|
| HEART OR CHEST HOOKING
HOOK SHALLOW, CROSSWISE THROUGH THE BREASTBONE OR UNDER PECTORAL FINS. DON’T HOOK TOO DEEP. POPULAR WHEN FISHING LARGER LIVE BAITS, LIKE BROWNBAITS, NEAR OR ON THE BOTTOM WITH A SINKER. |

I am going to be opening a bait and tackle shop but have no clue how to get a supplier…if I search it online all i get it retail shops fronting as wholesale but the prices are higher then it costs to buy the stuff from wal-mart. does anyone know where I can go to find real wholesale supplies for fishing and tackle?
My dad and I like to wade fish rivers for bronze-backs. Before I was seriously into fishing I just took the one pole I had. Now however I have several set ups to choose from and I’m not sure sure which one to use.
Of these options which one would you suggest?
6′6 medium heavy bait casting with 8 pound monofilament
6′6 medium action spinning with 10 pound fluorocarbon
Buy a new rod and reel specifically for wading for smallies
I do have 2 other set ups, but they are out of the question because they are heavy action with heavy test braids.
I am leaning toward the baitcasting because I don’t want flouro due to the fact that I may use top waters. Yet at the same time even though I have confidence in my skills on the casting reel, it may be hassle-full to deal with a backlash while in the water. I have some cash so I wouldn’t have a problem buying some new stuff if I don’t have anything well suited for wade fishing.
Has anyone gotten a chance to use that Samurai braided line by Daiwa? If so, what was the application and what do you think of Daiwa products?
i collect old and antique fishing equipment. i have had a certain rod for some time now and i haven’t found out what type of rod this is. ok here is a general description.
if someone out there might collect fishing equipment too, do you think this thing might be worth something. i am not too bg into selling my collection but it would be interesting to know if it is worth more than i payed for it ($10.00)
the rod is
1-about 8′ long
2-from the bottom of the rod it is tightly wound with braided rope going up about 2-2 1/2 feet
3-there isn’t a place on the rod for a reel to be mounted
4-there are 4 or 5 eyelets for line to be run through.
now here is the weird thing for me
5-the whole rod from bottom to top is covered in thick wax
i am wanting to think that is a old saltwater rod but i am not sure. i bought it from a guy at a flea market to put in my “fishing room” . that room is there for me to get away from life when i don’t have the opportunity to go fishing. if anyone has an idea about what it is could you drop me a line. thanks good luck good fishin be safe and remember to share the experience
Ok here is the deal, I go fishing about two times a month with my dad. We stay at a campground just above ocean isle beach and launch his boat into the intercoastal waterway to. In reality all we are doing is going on a boat ride because we hardly ever catch anything. I’m not really looking for any specific type of fish however I would like information from anyone that has any type of help to offer. We usually fish the area between holden beach and the ocean isle bridge. I would like to know what kind of rig(weight size, hook type and size also) to use, what type of bait, for different fish. I feel like I’ve wasted my money I recently bought about 150$$$ worth of tackle included all of the following:
8lb power_pro braided line
20lb Seaguar flourocarbon leader
an inshore soft plastics kit from bass pro
a speck trout and redfish soft plasics kit
and a d.o.a. shrimp soft plastics kit with dvd
Please Help a frustrated Novice fisherman.
