Hi,
I recently bought a Okuma convector CV-45D rounded bait-casting reel and I haven’t bought a rod for it yet. I’m thinking of getting a heavy rod that can hold 20-60lbs mono or braided lines.
My questions is: Those rods with AFTCO roller guides, I know that they are good for your braided lines for these type of test lines can break your line guides through frictions. Will someone please help me explain what’s the advantage or dis-advantage of having a fishing rod with AFTCO roller guides and what type of fishing I can do with those rods? I want something I can use for short distance casting and trolling and can hold 2lbs sinker too for Pier STILL fishing.
Thanks

i need some insight on fishing at whiskeytown lake in north state, CALIF. im use to fishing in ‘the delta’ and cant get used to the crystal clear waters of whiskeytown. the other source of my frusteration is not having a boat. is there any tips for sucess you can share about fishing off the banks of whiskeytown or other clear *** waters? what line is best? is there a kind of braided line that is suited for clear water? A couple more of my frusterations are: they dont let you use live bait, its hard to reach deep water while fishing from the bank, and the water is freakin cold so the bass dont hardly become aggresive. the temperature warms up in the summer at like the top 3 ft of the surface. I’d like tips on bass fishing with bait, bass fishing with lures in shallow, and summer trout fishing in shallow.

hey, i just got a Pinnacle Solene bait caster from walmart. it was 50 bucks so i figured i should get one.
neways.
i was wondering what brand and type (mono, braided, etc.) of line i should get. i would be fishing for bass in nearby lakes in eau claire. most of the lakes dont have that much weeds in them. also i usually use soft plastic baits like gulp alive. the occasional frog and lure.
Suggestions

Hey guys!
I decided to get a Shimano Curado 200DHSV. Looked at it in the store today and I really liked it. Plus the nice rebate makes it even more enticing!
I haven’t ordered it yet and will order it online later today or tomorrow…
I am trying to find a nice rod for the reel that is under $100.
I will use the setup for bass fishing and inshore flats fishing. Any suggestions?
Also can you suggest a quality braided line (and line weight) that would be optimal for my setup?

I have a reel that can hold 310 m of 40lb mono , if i was to put 40 lb braid on it how much line would it fit?

i was thinking of ordering a 50lb spool of braided line, is this excessive. i usually fish for bass and catfish, and recently i have seen a few catfish jump out of the water at the local pond who’s heads were at least a foot and a half across. and with 20 LB line i would hate to hook it and have it get off. Also i was wondering which brand of braided line is the best to use at 50lb. Its between “PowerPro Braided Spectra Fiber Micro Filament Line”, “SpiderWire Stealth Braided Fishing Line”, or “Berkley FireLine Braid Fishing Line”

I have a MH 6′6 2 piece ugly stick, 30 lb braid fireline, and an abu garcia C5 Mag 5600
rod $30
line $14 (got 300 yds)
reel was $105, got it for $50
Sow aht set up do you use, and how much does it run?

Ok… so now that im getting pretty heavy into fishing (those who continuously help me out know and i thank you) im having a hard time/conflicting opinions on what type of fishing line to use. Am looking for opinions on types such as “braided” “Fluorocarbons” “Monofilament” and the list goes on. Just want to see what you guys prefer or refuse to use and why… Thanks

Right now I am using 8lb fluorocarbon, and I am having success, but I really don’t like the feel of it as far as casting and sensitivity. It feels like it stretches out and gets weaker when I’m yanking out a snag, etc. I like the fact that the fish can’t see it though.. I’m thinking about switching to a thin braid or maybe one of those superlines??? What about that fireline crystal stuff, it always catches my eye at the store, but I haven’t tried it.
