   Monofilament is the way to go in my opinion. I very rarely use anything other than the mono stuff, occasionally I will use braided line but like you, I’m not a big fan of it. I’ll rig up one baitcaster with it to have when I cross some nasty cover and want to throw a jig or what not in it. The mono is always very smooth, sensitive, fairly hard to see under water, and very cheap compare to the other lines. Over all the mono would be you’re best bet. Theres plenty of cons I can think of when it comes to flouro and braided but not one for the mono. Stick to what you’re used to. Then again if you’re that curous about it why not rig up one of your setups with fluro? Try it out yourself and see what you think about it, you never know.

   You’ve got to try fluorocarbon. Mono stretches so it’s usually good for soaking bait because it gives the fish more time to pick the bait up and run with it. Fluorocarbon is better for most bass lures. There’s very little to no stretching, and does not fray when pulling it through structure. It lets you feel more of everything the lure hits. You can get a good feel for structure and the contour of the water column when pulling your baits through. Any little bump or bite and you will know it and be able to get a quicker hook set. Since mono stretches, it seems like more of a delayed hook set, although, with some lures you will want that. For the most part, I would go with fluorocarbon for bustin’ bass. Good luck.

   You could try fluorocarbon but you may just come back to mono. I’ve had no problems with Stren, Trilene XL, or Berkley Big Game. I can cover all bass fishing techniques that I use with these three lines. Trilene XL works great for your lighter spinning reels quite well, when you’re finesse fishing/drop shottin’. Stren would be considered your all-around bass line, it works fine for Texas rigs, Carolina rigs, crankbaits, spinnerbaits, just about anything. Berkley Big Game is what I use for heavy cover with jigs, spinnerbaits, topwater frogs, or heavy plastic worms.
   If your just going to pick one all-around line, I’d go with 10lb or 12lb original stren mono.

   I prefer Spider Wire. It has never failed on my yet and I have been fishing for over 10 years
