Salt or fresh water does not deteriorate braided line, however, constant use does. I went to braided line several years ago because of its awesome test strength as compared to its diameter. What I found out is that with use (even with what I consider normal use) it tends to fray, thereby greatly compromising its strength integrity. Hope that helps.
Braided line is more commonly used in saltwater because of it’s strength. The fraying problem can be remedied by using fishing rods with roller guides rather than eyes.
