Catch them with your hands, you'll never know what you'll bump into, a crocodile, alligator, a bull shark. It's a surprise every time.

Ok if there is a lot of brush and stuff in the lake go with the braided line but it you fish from shore and use lite baits go with the mono line. And if either one dosen't work buy diff. types of new lines and try them out.

if your new to bait casters, dont get too frustrated, they can be trickey. just take the time to learn about them and you'll be glad that you did.
depends, im not familiar with what your talking about, personally i perfer open faced reels, but its all good

Lets go over this from the start.
The Solene is not the worst in the world to start with.
To start cheep mono as your going to cut it off about three times as you start to learn how to cast a bait caster. I use mono in the clear parts of Lake Champlain as well. I use 12 lb test mono off the bottom shelf at walmart. Now lets move on to a tip. when you have the line on take about 2 inches of electrical tape out with you to the front lawn. tie the line on the tree or postbox pole and walk back to where you would stand to cast to that point.. then take three more steps backward.. do not fall down, mind that rock.. then put the tape on the line nice and tight..
This way when it back lashes you do not have ALL the line on the reel to cut off and start over the first three times.. then you will start getting better and better and still use the tape.. I do.. as you start fishing .

You ever thought of getting another spool for the reel? Did it come with an extra spool? I would have one spooled up with 12 lb. Stren original mono, and the other spool i would have 17 or 20 lb. Stren original mono. The 12 lb. would be for everything from spinner baits, crank baits, poppers, walk-the-dog baits, buzz baits, and finesse worms. For the 17 or 20 lb., i would use it for Texas rigged soft plastics, jigs, and top-water frogs. I throw Texas rigged plastics around 50% of the time, and i consider you to use that 17 or 20 lb. mono for wormin'. No, you don't have to, but i find Texas rigs to be more efficient with a heavier type line. And just in case you are fighting that 10 lb. bass out of 7-10 lbs. of muck, you have the line to fight the way out of it.
You said your lake doesn't have much weeds in them, if it were a real weedy lake i would go for a 50 lb. braid. But stick with the 12 lb. mono on one spool, and 17 or 20 lb. on the other.
Happy fishing.

The Pinnacle reels have a great reputation in my area for durability and value. It's a good buy. Put some P-Line on it in fluorocarbon in 12-14 lb test since you are going to have some very hard hook sets when using the frog
