How Is This Fishing Rod I Bought???

11

After I spent 200 dollars and spent countless hours looking for a rod a reel and some line, I want some opinions on it. I wanted an all purpouse rod for bass, trout, small pike, walleye, pearch, etc. So here is my rod…
-Ugly Stik Lite 6′6″ Medium action, cork handle
-Shimano Sedona 2500RB Rear Drag Reel
-Spiderwire Ultracast Ultamate Braid 10lb line
How is all this stuff… Please give it a rating from 1 to 100 for the type of fishing I do.

Sounds like a nice set up. Up here in Northern Wisconsin this would be considered a high end rig by the locals. I think that this would be a good general purpose rig for what you are looking for.
The real issue is how does it feel in your hand. I just bought my wife a new rod and real and got her the same rod ($39 at Fleet Farm) and new Shakespeare closed face reel ($12) but I made her handle the rod and see how comfortable it was. So that she could make her decision by feel not by reputation or cost. Last weekend we were out fishing for 5 hours on the Wolf river and if you are going to hold a rod for that long and maybe make 200 casts or more then it better free good in your hand.
It is not the rod or reel or line that is going to catch fish, it is how you use it and of course if they decide to bite.
Oh, I would rate that at about 90 or so. If you catch a lot of fish then even a bamboo rod is a 100.

I go along with Mr T. and the Wizard on their ratins’/evaluation ;)
To this day I still do not understand why but, a lot of ppl down-play Berkley’s Ugly Stik, so if ya’ should get some negative feed-back let this just be a’ “forewarnin’ ” ~ don’t be discouraged ;) . Been fishin’ a lonnnnng time and personally don’t use one myself but, the MS.s is right on my heels ie., years of fishin’ and she swears by her Ugly Stik! “Fish On”, from the both of us…

    rating?
    OK–> 100
Sounds like it will more than handle the type of fishing you mentioned, and if your pleased with it that’s all that matters
I have 2 Shimano reels, and love them both, Ugly stick is a fine rod, and your choice of line is great too
    good shopping!

You got took. I have purchased from Walmart a fenwick 6,6 medium action spinning rod and a shimano spinning reel for under $100 and it is a great all around setup.

  5. AIRFLOW says:

That’s a OK to use, however $200 seems a little steep for and ugly stik and shimano, try shopping around, otherwise that’s a great set up and should last you long enough.

  6. McLaren says:

Sounds like a fine combo, but I do have to agree with airflow, how exactly did you spend $200? The Ugly Stik should be $40 and the 2500 size Sedona should be $50. Did you buy a 1500 yard spool of line? LOL
