I Have A Fishing Reel That Can Fit 275 Yards Of 15lb Mono. How Much 20lb. Braid (6lb Dia.) Can Fit On It?
I own a Penn 525GS Mag. I believe it fits 275 yards of 15lb mono. I want to use 20lb braid with an equivelent mono diameter of 6lbs., and need to be able to get long distances for surf fishing. Any help on the mono to braid fishing line conversion would be much appreciated! Thanks.
I am using the same technique you are planning on using except i don’t yak mine out. I have a rod that will hold 310yds of 15# mono i replaced this with 300yds of 30# braid and 150yds of 50# braid on top and 25yds of 50# mono as a casting leader all this on a 10′ ugly stik using a steel leader using 4oz weights and bunkerhead for bait I can cast all of this about 100yds
your reel with 20# braid will hold about 550-600yds which is more than enough for sharks within the 5′ and under range if you want to tackle bigger ones you will need a bigger reel and heavier line than 20#

I may be off by a longshot but I think 6# mono will allow you to hold 5 times more line on your reel making it full with 1375 yds. Six pound line is 1/5 the diameter of 15 lbs test.
15 lb mono= 0.30 dia
6 lb mono= 0.06 dia
Rodney is right about tying your braid onto the mono used as backing. I don’t know where you would need that much 6 lb line or what you are intending on catching but it sure as heck sounds like a lot of fun to me. Just use a Uni-Uni knot and something else I like to do is a add a drop of Miracle Glue to the knot.http://www.miracleglue.com/fishing.htm

20lb braid has a 10 lb mono diameter ,fill your spool up 3/8 of the way with cheaper line ,this will save you money..
You should be able to put well over 500yds of 6lb braid on. Probably WAY more than you could ever use.
