I use trilene and love it the rapala knot holds (for me) the best of all and on this side of the sierras I use green line and in the deep blue sea and the eastern sierras, I use clear. I use fluorocarbon leaders from time to time and the palomar knot is the only knot I like on fluorocarbon.
    for trout I use 2lb.
large mouth, small mouth and stripers from 4 -12 lb
in shore spotted bay bass 6lb
halibut 6 lb – 10 lb maybe with as much as a 20 lb leader
calico bass in rocks 6-10 lb (only)
white sea bass, salmon and yellow tail and dorado 15 – 18lb

Braid – 30lb PowerPro (it’s an all around decent line with little complaints) I use it mainly for striper fishing and some medium bay fishing.
Mono – 8lb P-Line CXX (it’s ridiculously strong, a little on the thick side, but an overall tough and dependable line)
Flouro – 8lb Seguar (one of the most fluid, toughest, best-performing flouros out there. I count on it for most of my clearwater applications)
knots – egg loop, snell, uni, palomar (primary braid knot), and improved clinch
I have a small cheat sheet in my vest with all sorts of knots though; it’s nice to have the quick reference if I need to do something special.

I use Trilene XL Smooth Casting Mono, clear and green. 8 and 10lbs. test line. From Crappie to Walleye and Steelhead Trout, this fishing line works great for me. Note: I adjust the drag according to the size fish I’m going after and reel them in with ease and no breakage. As for knots, I use the UNI Knot, my favorite. It handles the pull of tough fighting fish such as Steelheads. I hope these answers help with your decision. Good Luck with your fishing adventures!

  5. AIRFLOW says:

Fly fish and use too many different breaking strains, mainly because i build up my own tapered leaders, mainly use fluorocarbon but also various co-polymers, i use airflo g3 fluorocarbon and rio, frog hair and maxima, along with riverage and seaguar for salmon and steelhead.
