I have use several brands and now stick to Berkley fireline!
I use the braid then use flourocarbon leader to the lure or bait anymore in clear water and a length of heavier braid as leader in stained waters.

Powerpro 20lb 6lb diameter. works great I have tufline on my musky outfits 60lb-80lb a lil big for gills. I am going to switch one of those out with some heavier cajun red though some stretch is good. For fishing with slip bobbers for walleye I use 8lb stren magnathin in there walleye color with a 4′ leader of 4lb Stren or trilene. As long as it cast good and catches fish I don’t care unless I get a sponsor.

Power Pro is the best braid I have used.

Some very good answers here already! i like to fish with braid because of the sensitivity it gives you and the strength to thickness ratio it has, i like Berkley braid especially fire-line.http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templa…
And to answer the other part of your question yes you can.

Berkley “Fireline” is pretty DARN good for most freshwater applications.
And Power Pro/Stren Superline is excellent TOO!
I use a combo of Berkley F and PowerPro on most of my spinning outfits.
Fireline on “lighter action” combo’s & PowerPro on Jig/Worming combo’s.
    Either way-PowerPro/Fireline & you’re good to go!
    Good luck!

Power Pro by far has been the best I’ve used, and I’ve tried them all!

not sure what brand to use….they are all decent, but i would try using about 14-20 lb test. that should be good for just about anything. the world record saltwater striped bass was caught on 20 lb monofiliment line…..crazy huh…..it was 78 lbs 8 oz

I have tried them all and have stuck with Power Pro, best braided line on the market as far as I am concerned.
20 lb line is the same diameter as 6 lb.
65 lb is the same diameter as 16 lb.
The good ol fashion palomar knot works great with it as well.

I started using smoke colored Fireline back in the mid 90’s and it still reigns supreme. Knots well, somewhat abrasion resistant, will haul logs of out lakes if snagged, or hooks will give out first, very quiet against eyelets on the guides.
I recently tried PowerPro in red and yellow, 12lb dia./ 50 or 60lb test. I didn’t care for how freaking noisy it was on any of my rods, whether they had Fuji guides, or Berkley’s brass/ metal ones. Just noisy!
I still use Fireline in smoke on my spinning rigs, and 12lb Sufix Elite on my baitcasters.
    So, Fireline it is!

I have tried a lot of braided lines and I really like the one from sufix. it is very thin , very sensitive, very strong, and abrasion resistant. it also holds a knot very well, and casts like a dream. I use the 20 and 30 pound tests. I use them both for muskies and flatheads . I use the evening secret fishing light when fishing for flatheads and it draws in tons of baitfish which in turn draws in the gamefish in droves. I will tie on a small jig or small crankbait to the pole with the 20 pound test sufix and catch every thing from white bass to walleyes on it . when I get tired of that I rerig and go back to flatheads. I have caught 20-30 pound flatheads with it and have lost bigger ones . not the lines fault though the hooks I was trying out were junk. the line holds up great. i started using it for muskies this past season and it works equally well for them. hope this helps .

Original SpiderWire Braid 20lb. It’s only 6 llb. diameter so you can fish light and ultralight baits as well as heavy baits. It has a breaking point of 38 lbs. so you could Musky fish with it if you wanted.
