What Is The Biggest Fish You Have Caught With 6lb Test Line?

13

It doesn’t matter if you used mono, fluorocarbon or braid line as long as it is a 6lb test line. It could be a freshwater or a saltwater fish. It doesn’t matter if you used a leader or not. However, please do not include catches that utilized a shock leader.

Hi Mate. this year was the first year that we tried less than 8kg on Black Marlin. We get a run for about 5 weeks and this year boated 35 in excess of 40 kg. Once getting into the swing we went to TLD 15’s with 2 and 4 kg igfa test. no problems switch baiting with the lighter lines as long as on a long run the fish did not want to go sideways for a run, it was the drag that usually broke us off. 20kg Black on 2 and 4 no problems as long as you have the boat to back down on them. mahi Mahi or Dolphin fish are a lot smaller as the dont tend to run back in a straight line as well, and around the 10 kg pulled us up on the lighter lines. the get pretty agressive and agile. drag once again on the line is what breaks it rather than the fish activity.

ok this is one of my favorite fishing stories it was a bad year for salmon up here in alaska but we went anyway cause we can always use the meat but i decided i would try for some steelies i was using the cheaper kind of line and it was 6# anyway i was using a trout lure and i winged it out there 3 cast i hooked a 12 pound silver and it faught for a long time and right when i got it on the bank the line snapped. and the hook was almost bentback all the way but dad grabbed the fish right before it got in the river so we had smoked salmon with lunch the next day good lusk fishing tight lines…

That would be a 24lb 3 oz rainbow trout, it was caught from a stocked lake, so sadly not a wild fish, i was using airflo g3 6lb test fluorocarbon on a grand max tapered knotless leader. My rod was a sage TCR 6wt, with a lamson waterworks reel. Fly line was a airflo ridge technology WF 6wt, floater, the fish was taken on an olive woolly bugger, with gold bead head, on a size 10 hook.

I do know my 63 year old dad has caught a 17lb 3oz channel cat on a line of 6lb it was monofilament superstrength or something made by rapala.
Even more impressive (I do not know the full details however)
He managed to catch a 28lb carp on 8lb test!
The biggest fish i have caught on 6lb is 4lb 3oz
Rapala knot or palomar is what my dad usually uses by the way

45″ 23 lb musky by accident fishing for walleyes. Rapala knot, Original Stren. I almost caught one on 4 lb but the line broke after a 4 min fight. That might have been a record as that fish was bigger.
