   braid is NOT recommended for a spincast reel. too many sharp angles where the line will cut through the metal in no time, ruining your reel.
   unless you are using a zebco omega Z02/03 reel. they have 3 ceramic pick-ups and a ceramic lined hole that the line feeds through making them virtually cut proof. and six ball bearings on top of that!
   so stick to a good quality of mono that is as light as you can get by with (8lb) so you can still make a good cast.

   The Wormist has a lot of great info on his answer. Braid is not recommended for a spin casting reel. I have read/heard about the Omega and i guess braid will do alright on it. But why braid? Braid has low cast ability. In a spin cast reel, line practically gets tangled on cue. You want a very good casting line to at least get some life out of the reel. Trilene or other similar type mono is the only way to go i think. Trilene XL Smooth Cast would do perfect in your situation ~ http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores…
   Also like the Wormist said, go as light as you can. Lighter lines are better for casting. And some spin cast reels just can’t handle big catfish lines or other big game lines. And for the limit, (AKA line capacity) it depends on what reel you have. For example, the Zebco 33 holds 130 yds. of 10 lb. test. Other reels may be different. Well, here is a list of the lightest lines you can use for some of the common freshwater species ~
   Largemouth Bass ~ 8 lb.
   Smallmouth Bass ~ 6 lb.
   Channel Catfish ~ 10 lb.
   Carp ~ 12 lb.
   Bluegill/pan fish ~ 2 or 4 lb.
   Walleye ~ 8 lb.

   I use 15lb red mist. its is definitely worth its money
