What’s The Best Line To Fish Bass Jigs With, Mono Or Braid ?

6

Mono & braid are both good for fishing a jig. I don’t use braid because it has the visibility of a light bulb in a dark room. I would stick with an abrasion resistant mono. I would use 10-12 lb. for light cover jig fishing, and 14-20 lb. for the heavy cover (where the big boys stay).
May i also say, i have had great luck with a “Bass Pro Shops Pro Enticer Football Jig” with a “Berkley 3″ or 4″ Chigger Craw” trailer. My all time favorite jig color is PB & J (Peanut Butter & Jelly.). For the jig, i like both the 1/2 & 1/4 oz. sizes. For the 1/2 oz. PB & J jig, i use a 4″ Berkley Chigger Craw in pumpkin green. For the 1/4 oz. PB & J jig, i use a 3″ Berkley Chigger Craw in pumpkin green.
Happy fishing.

Well Mark, I jumped on the braid and the super lines several years back. It didn’t take me long to go through 3 pretty expensive reels by stripping their gears out. I seem to feel the need to set the hook in every log, snag or whatever thinking a fish hit the lure. The braid and super lines have no give. The logs and snags don’t either. This results in the reel getting damaged. And for what? A better hook set? Maybe or maybe not. It’s not worth the destruction of my reels. And sooner or later, you will destroy your reel if you fish the braids long enough. Go with the mono.

    Monofilament, 6. Braid, 1.
Mono in 8-10, 12-15, and 17-20 pound test. Depending on the situation.
The tighter and nastier the vegetation, the thicker and uglier the sticks, the heavier the line, and bigger the bass.
Thumbs up, dumdum. I knew it was only a matter of time before I heard of someone killin’ their reel with the braided stuff. What kinda reel did you strip the gears in?

hey there, for jigging i would suggest to use the mono. all depending on the size of jig you are using i would suggest an 8 lb to10 lb test. i have 10 lb berkley big game mono on a couple of my light action rods and reels and i have pulled up some nice sized bass on those lil rods and i have never hadany problems with that line. i hope this helps you out a bit good luck good fishin be safe and remember to share the experience

braid would be better because its better for fishing structure and it doesn’t stretch so you can get a better hook set

8 or 10 lb. mono is fine.
