Ok… so now that im getting pretty heavy into fishing (those who continuously help me out know and i thank you) im having a hard time/conflicting opinions on what type of fishing line to use. Am looking for opinions on types such as “braided” “Fluorocarbons” “Monofilament” and the list goes on. Just want to see what you guys prefer or refuse to use and why… Thanks
what is your absolute favorite brand of fishing line that you use?
what poundage do you use?
do you use monofilament, fluorocarbon, or braided line?
what are your favorite fishing knots?
thanks for all answers!!
Have you ever seen a channel catfisherman using an 8′ medium-heavy action rod w/ a saltwater reel filled w/ braid? I mean, come on the dude is gonna catch what? A monster? No. Fish in the 1-5 pound range OCCASIONALLY catching a cat 15 lbs. It’s ridiculous. All you really need for situations like this is a bass sized outfit. Yea, a 6′-7′ medium action rod, with a smaller reel with 12-20 lb. monofilament. Does people do this just to make people believe that they are catching 50 + flatheads in a 10′ creek?
Pisses me off.
Hi,
Can anyone help me pick a boat fishing rod & reel for saltwater in-shore fishing. I am mostly fishing in the long island sound, for blues fluke and strippers. I would like to do bait fishing and also use poppers and jigs. Is there a rod and reel combos that would accomplish both types of fishing?
Also what lb test line is good?
Also what type of line should i buy? (braided, mono, flouro)
why do people use high visi braid line for??? i have high visi brain 20 lb line thats yellow and i wonder why does it need to be visible because if the fish can see the line then they wont bite
Ok I have always used mono, never tried flourocarbon, and do not like braid. I was wondering if I should use fluorocarbon instead or stick with mono and what mono is the best to use??? Thanks
After I spent 200 dollars and spent countless hours looking for a rod a reel and some line, I want some opinions on it. I wanted an all purpouse rod for bass, trout, small pike, walleye, pearch, etc. So here is my rod…
-Ugly Stik Lite 6′6″ Medium action, cork handle
-Shimano Sedona 2500RB Rear Drag Reel
-Spiderwire Ultracast Ultamate Braid 10lb line
How is all this stuff… Please give it a rating from 1 to 100 for the type of fishing I do.
I can’t access my email right now to write you back so I am doing it here. If you are going to be fishing from the beach in the keys, there isn’t much I can tell you… You might catch some bait fish, maybe some cod… If you are going out on a boat however, the possibilities are endless. I would personally go after marlins and tarpon. Both of those fish fight extremely hard, so you might want to get some lead core and troll. If not, get yourself a good 100# or higher braid and a good sturdy pole.
Good luck out there, here is a site to show you the different possibilities of fish in that area…
Does anyone else have any info that they can offer? He is fishing in the Keys.
I do a lot of fishing for speckled trout/red drum in the florida panhandle and have heard that a popping cork will work good with live shrimp or gulp. Here’s my dilemma, I cant keep the dang thing on my line. Ive lost 5 of them last time i went out. I even had an old salt show me how but it slips off the line every time. I get them out there pop’em a few times, get a hug bite and the cork pops right off. The ones Ive been using and getting bites on are the 3-4 inch ones with a cup on the top, beads inside, with the pin running through the middle. I pull the pin run the line through the center put the pin back in and wrap the line a few times on the top and bottom. Im using a med-heavy action rod and reel combo with 20lb spiderwire braid, 24-36 inch 20lb fluorocarbon leader connected to the main line by a barrel swivel and a 1/0 – 2/0 hook. Its also awkward to cast with the poping cork sitting above the leader. Is there a better way to rig the popping cork so that it is easier to cast? Is there a better way to keep the cork on the line? Im getting huge bites and reeling in big fish but am losing my cork every time. When I run out of corks I have to wade waist deep and toss the mirrolure but id rather just toss the popping cork out from the beach (bayside) pop open a cold one and pop the cork a while.
